Trying Something New

Guillermo and I recently went to this really weird cool restaurant...called Le Tub...

I really wanted a burger that night and we kept hearing about this place called Le Tub that apparently has the best burgers around...voted by GQ Magazine. It was also seen on The Oprah Winfrey Show...so they burgers had to be amazing right?

The weird thing was that they decorated the place with...yes you guessed it bathtubs! They even had a couch made out of a bathtub and you sit on toilets while you wait for a table! I should have taken pictures, because this place was very creatively decorated. The place is like a maze, with lush plants everywhere and it is on the water. They were playing country music when we arrived..so I thought I was in heaven...I mean country music and a restaurant on the water in South Florida...that is rare to find...especially a bathtub couch!

Yes I know what you are thinking and yes it was a little redneck, but hey I was there for that burger. Well unfortunately the service was terrible and I spotted our waiter drinking on the job...he wasn't being that secretive. The burger was ok...I can make a better one...just sayin. But the place is pretty cool and relaxing...it was nice to try something new. Which I have been doing a lot of lately, but there is so much to see and do in South Florida.

Guillermo decided to Instagram a picture of me..too bad he didn't notice the water cooler behind me!

Currently Reading

I am obsessed with Women's Health Magazine and Fitness Magazine. I love learning about nutrition and fitness, it is just so interesting to me. I type out my workout and follow it for 3-4 weeks then switch to another workout. I plan out my breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks the day before I eat them (Yes I know I'm weird). I find that if you make a plan, you are more likely to stick to it...and I love planning..anything.

I bought this book (only $10!) and started reading it immediately. This book isn't a diet..shocking I know. It is more about not dieting and just eating and living healthy. Which is funny, because just like every women I've tried several different diets and guess what they didn't work! I told myself not to diet and just eat healthier and exercise daily...and that is working waaaay better than any diet. So this book just confirmed that I'm right :)

This book has great tips on exercising, yummy recipes, workout routines, and information on your body, fat, muscles, and just about anything you can imagine on health and fitness. So I definitely recommend it.

Since I moved to Florida, I've lost 7 pounds and gained quite a bit of muscle. But that is probably because of all the fresh food, outdoor activities, and warm weather year around. But I have been trying really hard to get rid of my college weight also.

Yes I know I don't look like a Victoria Secret model and that I have a booty and large thighs...but that is just how my body shape is and I can't change that too much. (Good thing big butts are in). Sure I still want to lose a couple pounds, so I can be more confident, but I really just want to be fit and healthy.

Don't get me wrong I still like to eat a good burger now and then... and Ben & Jerry still have my heart, but only on special occasions.

Living for the Weekend

Don't you just love weekends?

I never use to live for the weekend until I got a full-time job. In college I worked on the weekends and caught up on my homework, but of course we all know everyone goes out during the week for half off sushi, happy hour, movies, etc.

Now I live for the weekends, by the time Friday rolls around I am exhausted and ready to trade my heels for pajama pants and catch up on my favorite shows and snuggle on the couch with my man. On Sunny Saturdays I usually grab a book and head to the beach or meet up with some friends at the beach, nap, then hang out with friends at night. And on Lazy Sunday, well I'm just plain lazy (except Sunday is laundry day so at least I am a little productive).

This past weekend, Guillermo had some friends in town so we went out in downtown Fort Lauderdale to show them around. On Saturday, we all went to the beach of course and OF COURSE I got sunburned. I don't understand, lately every time I go to the beach I get sunburned (and no my sunscreen isn't expired Caitlin!). Maybe the reason is because the UV Rays are stronger here in the summer?

Saturday night we went out dancing, Latin dancing that is. I practiced my Bachata, Salsa, and Merengue (gotta prepare for my Peru trip!) and I think my dancing skills are improving. I love Latin dancing, it is so fun but I want to learn how to dance really good. I keep telling Guillermo that we should take Salsa lessons to learn more complicated moves, but he thinks that since he is Latin that he already knows everything ;)

All around it was a good weekend, but now it's Monday and I gotta kick it into high gear because I have work to do and deadlines to meet. I love my job, but yes I am already planning the weekend ahead :)

Spontaneity

"Only in spontaneity can we be who we truly are."

This past weekend was very spontaneous and interesting...

I am usually such a planner and have to know exactly what I will be doing, but sometimes you just have to go with the flow and enjoy life...without planning it. Because sometimes the best things in life are the things you don't plan for, the things you never expect.

This past weekend Guillermo and I, along with 3 friends, went to a wedding that was 3 hours away...in the middle of nowhere! Here is what our trip looked like...
  • Running out of gas in the Everglades, in the middle of a panther crossing!
  • 5 Rednecks with a boat and 2 gallons of gas...saving us.
  • Midnight swimming
  • Random Marco Island visit
Running out of gas in the Everglades is no joke, because the only thing that is around is alligators and panthers! But yes, a couple rednecks saved the day...all within 5 mins of running out of gas (that is the power of 2 blondes in the middle of nowhere)

On the way home from the wedding, we got off on an exit to get some snacks and drinks...ironically it was the exit for Marco island. So right then and there we decided hey...let's go to the beach for a bit. And ironically we had beach gear ready to go. I had never been in the Gulf of Mexico before (way different then Eastern FL), but it was fun to be near 2 different oceans in the same day.

That is one good thing about living in Florida, especially in Southern Florida...every exit has a beach!

The weekend was just what I needed...nothing planned, just spontaneity.

Wait...it's July?

I cannot believe that it is already July! More than half the year if over...or for those of you who live where it actually gets cold, summer is more than half over. :(

I spent my 4th on South Beach, 7 hours to be exact...not the best idea with this heat (even though it is actually cooler here than it is up north). Anyways, I ended up getting heat exhaustion and it was terrible! All I ate was saltines and toast...so by Monday all I wanted was a real meal...which I finally ate last night. So I am all better now, except boyfriend is now sick with a stomach virus (heyy not my fault).

I feel like no matter how old I am, I will always want my Mom to baby me when I'm sick, she just makes me feel better :) Even though I am hundreds of miles from her I still called her the other day and said "I'm sick" (with a baby voice of course) and she made a fuss and gave me sympathy :)

Other than being a sicky, I've been working my little butt off, hanging out with friends, practicing my Spanish (gotta get ready for my Peru trip!), and planning my trip back to NC! I haven't been home since Christmas, which is kinda sad but hey flights aren't cheap especially when only 2 airlines fly into your home town. So don't worry Mom, I will come in August and you can baby me then!
